Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is. Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@landworkersalliance.org.uk Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work. You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

NEW ROLE: Teign Greens is looking for a second hard-working and driven market gardening trainee to join the team for 6-months from April to October.

We’re a Community Supported Agriculture Scheme supplying weekly organic and biodynamic vegetable bags to local households as well as a small amount of wholesale surplus to local shops and projects. Less than a year old, we already provide around 50 weekly bags, and we have ambitious plans to grow our scheme to 100 weekly shares over the 2021 season. All our veg is grown on our beautiful and productive 5-acre market garden, using min-till methods to minimise our impact on the earth. Crops are grown on rotation between agroforestry rows of fruit trees and soft fruit bushes, and our margins and hedges are left wild to promote biodiversity. Due to a change in circumstances, we are delighted to be looking for a second trainee for the 2021 season, to work and learn alongside another person – who has already been recruited.

Our informal traineeship will see you taking part in all elements of running a market garden and CSA scheme including propagation, cultivation, weed and pest management, crop planning and record keeping as well as harvesting and packing our produce. You will cover a loose syllabus over the 6 months, and we’ll have weekly check-ins with you about your learning. Teign Greens is based at Oxen Park Farm, a 55 acre organic farm which is home to On The Hill, a residential land-based learning enterprise, so you may also help with wider farm tasks such as bringing in hay or instructing visiting young people in gardening tasks. There will be scope to join regular visits to nearby agroeocological farms throughout the season as part of the South Hams and South West Growers Groups. You will also take part in the Land Workers Alliance Traineeship scheme, including group training and farm visits with trainees from LWA-affiliated farms across the South West.

We can offer basic accommodation, fresh vegetables and a stipend of £75 per week in return for 4 days per week work on the market garden, plus occasional weekend duties. Accommodation on the farm is in your own basic but comfy caravan with woodburner. You’ll share an outdoor kitchen (inc. pizza oven), showers and compost loo with a small community of volunteers and trainees from the wider farm. During the week we all share lunch and we’ll have regular social evenings for the whole farm team to come together throughout the summer.

To apply, please send an email to teigngreens@gmail.com outlining:

Any relevant experience your have in market gardening or farming,

Why you think you’d be a good fit at Teign Greens and

What you hope to get out of the placement.

Applications should be no more than one page of A4. CVs won’t be considered, so please add any relevant experience to your email as outlined above. Closing date for applications is Friday 5th March. Interviews will take place on Zoom on Thursday 12th March. The ideal start date for the successful candidate will be around Easter 2021.
