Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is. Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@landworkersalliance.org.uk Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work. You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

The Meanwood Valley Market Garden is a social enterprise situated on an acre of land within Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, on the south-facing side of Meanwood Valley. We run a year-round CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or ‘veg box’ scheme, supplying chemical free and organic produce to more than 100 local households each week. We host two weekly volunteer days and deliver a seasonal paid traineeship for new growers.

We are looking for an Operations & Community Engagement worker to join our small team. In this administrative role you will be responsible for behind-the-scenes operations of the market garden, including managing the online sales platform, customer communications, recruiting and inducting new volunteers, delivering publicity and social media campaigns, taking care of everyday financial operations, and occasional input to the co-ordination of seasonal events.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, self-motivated, and passionate about local food and the agroecological movement. We are looking for a candidate who is an excellent communicator and confident in their problem-solving abilities. We are seeking someone who is a systems thinker, able to collaborate within a team, and is keen to apply their creativity to tweaking and improving existing systems and operations. You will meet regularly with the rest of the team and gain insight into all aspects of running the Market Garden.

This will be a 4 day/32 hours per week role. The contract is fixed term for 8-months, with a view to renewing dependent on funding. There is the option for this to become a remote working/hybrid position for someone based in the North of England, however we would require you to come to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm (Leeds) one day a week for the first few months whilst getting to know the project and its weekly routines. We are open to applications for this role as a job share.

We encourage you to visit the farm, or arrange an informal conversation over the phone with the Community Growers to find out more about the project and the role. Details on how to do this can be found below.
