I’m a new entrant grower in Somerset. 1st season this year while doing planning apps and constructing stuff. We WERE going to just sell some veg to a few pubs and one local veg box scheme locally, but the local villages are full of elderly people self-isolating who want veg boxes, so we’re setting up a small one as soon as possible. The locals are seeing empty shelves in the supermarkets and huge delays in home-deliveries from supermarkets! I’m working out details of what we can provide and planting extra already, but with the current craziness, I’m making it up as I go along (10 days ago, we had no plans to do this for at least a year). I have spreadsheet resources from Jake Oxton to help planning, which are really useful, but any advice or guidance on silly mistakes I need to avoid, etc, would be useful. I expect my first box/bag to go out in Mid-May.
Do you know Mark Cox at Barleywood Walled Garden? I don’t know where in Somerset you are but he’s lost a lot of restaurant customers and maybe could collaborate on a new route to market if that’d be useful – he does boxes locally and is a super experienced grower and lovely person – let me know if you want a contact.
