We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

We have two upcoming roles with the LWA.

1. Resilient Local Food Systems Project Worker / Gweithiwr Prosiect Systemau Bwyd Lleol Cydnerth

Hours: 24 hours (3 days) per week.

Duration: This role is supported by two separately funded projects which have different end dates. Current funding covers 3 days per week until March 2023 and then 1 day per week until September 2023. We hope to get additional funding to extend the full role to September 2023 or beyond.

Location: Working remotely from home with the capacity for regular travel for work, events and meetings in Wales, Scotland and England

Remuneration: £17,472 gross annual salary PAYE (£29,120 pro rata). With 1.5% annual increase, subject to review. Statutory pension contribution and holiday allowance.

Start date: ASAP following recruitment.

Closing date for applications: 5th December (11.59pm)

We are seeking a confident, skilled communicator, facilitator and organiser, who is passionate about building local food systems and has a good understanding of the complex issues and dynamics surrounding food and farming. The role consists of two main projects, each with separate funding:

Building Resilient and Local Food Systems Project Worker (2 days per week)
This project is UK wide and has three main areas of work:

  • Supporting start-ups and helping businesses switch to shorter supply chains and direct marketing systems.
  • Helping farmers and food businesses address and overcome barriers to developing local and short supply chain food systems through cooperation.
  • Campaigning and advocacy work to help create a policy and regulatory environment that allows local and short supply chain businesses to thrive.

The role involves: organising and facilitating webinars and farm visits; researching and developing written guides for producers and food businesses; fostering collaboration within and between local food systems; and developing relevant policy recommendations.

You will be working closely with the Resilient and Local Food System Coordinator to deliver the key elements of the project. There is considerable flexibility about how you define your role within this project, and to focus on the specific areas which you feel play to your strengths.

Welsh Food Hubs Project Liaison (1 day per week)

This role involves working on a project establishing five local food hubs throughout Wales as part of the multi-stranded, multi-partner Resilient Green Spaces project, led by Social Farms & Gardens. The role will work with Open Food Network, Development Trusts Association Wales, and Social Farms & Gardens. The work primarily involves leveraging the LWA network to support the success of this project, and representing the interests of our membership in how this project is implemented.

This post is funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union.
