Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is. Vacancy for Seasonal Volunteer Grower at The Fold CIC, Worcestershire
April – September 2020, full time, £50/week stipend and full board accommodation

For more information please contact farm@thefold.org.uk
To apply please fill out the application on our website at https://www.thefold.org.uk/get-involved/jobs/
    Application deadline: Friday 28th February 2020, 5pm

The Fold Farm is seeking a seasonal volunteer grower to assist with our small organic market garden. This is a great hands-on opportunity to learn about organic horticulture on our small but developing market garden located between Malvern and Worcester. This will include all aspects of production (from propagation through to harvest and delivery), looking after our small flock of laying hens and basic administration. The seasonal volunteer grower will ideally join our residential community in rural Worcestershire and work alongside the farm manager, grower and regular volunteers (local and residential), sharing responsibilities for running the market garden. This role does include some weekend duties on a rota.

The market garden is located at The Fold, a not for profit community interest company set up to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, the local and wider community and the planet. We do this by running enterprises that support the local economy and promote environmentally sustainable practices. The Fold is a lively and diverse organisation and includes a farm shop, a café, craft businesses, a therapy centre, yoga classes, monthly markets, and more! Please visit the website http://www.thefold.org.uk for more information.

The market garden, which is certified organic by the Soil Association, includes nearly an acre of no-dig raised beds, ⅓ acre of polytunnels and a new field of which ¾ acre is currently under cultivation. We plan to bring more of the land into production in future seasons. The market garden sells to an on-site farm shop, on-site café, small veg box scheme, monthly markets and wholesales to some local restaurants and shops.

The Fold Farm is also a venue for a Care Farm, where three days a week participants with various additional needs spend therapeutic time on the farm with a dedicated care farm manager. Therefore, the applicant will need to be comfortable working alongside diverse groups of people, as well as spending time independently.

Whilst the Care Farm has been running for nearly 10 years, the commercial aspect of the farm is still in its early days. This position is offered full board with comfortable private accommodation in the shared farm house which is home to several people who live and work at the Fold and form a friendly community of like-minded people. We offer a stipend of £50 per week.

Suitable applicants will be invited for a taster day on the farm and to stay overnight in the farm house, to meet all who live on-site, and an informal interview.
