Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Opportunity to set up and run an organic market garden on our beautiful coastal farm as we transition our mixed family farming unit towards greater biodiversity. Interest in trialling crops an advantage. Salary £24-26K with profit share.

Transitioning towards regenerative methods on a 1,000 acre farming operation in Gower has created a new opportunity to set up and run a market garden to grow and sell organic produce and flowers for local sale – as well as looking at crop trials to encourage further diversification of this mixed farming unit.

    The role
We are looking for someone with a passion and knowledge for growing to help us develop a new market gardening business, to help train youngsters coming into farming, and to contribute towards the overall development of a sustainable food and farming business on the beautiful Gower coastline.

    The package
A salary of £24-26K, dependent on experience, plus profit share, and assistance with finding local accommodation.

    Responsibilities:
    You will be responsible for:
    • Assisting with overall strategy
    • Developing cropping plans
    • Crop husbandry from planting to cultivation and storage
    • Developing and managing trainees
    • Managing supply volumes and relationships with local buyers
    • Establishing systems and infrastructure for the garden, including polytunnel with drip irrigation
    • Working with farm colleagues on establishing crop trials
    • Contributing towards promoting the business to customers and stakeholders
    • Assisting with associated farming operations where necessary

    Requirements:
    • Experience of running a successful market garden
    • Proven ability to coach and manage people
    • Experience with tractors and using and maintaining machinery
    • Use of planting, harvesting and weeding machinery
    • Experience of crop rotation and planning
    • Open to trialling new farm crops to suit local conditions
    • Scientific and methodical approach
    • Commitment to quality and positive customer relations
