Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is. Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@landworkersalliance.org.uk Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work. You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

Reddy Lane Market Garden (WA14 3RA), just outside Altrincham, Cheshire, is seeking new people to run it for the 2022 season. This could be a couple/partnership/group to take it over, or an experienced grower who wants to co-run it with the current person. It is currently set up as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee (CLG).

It is half-acre organically certified min till market garden. Propagation, access and composting happen outside this area, so it’s actually more like ¾ acre. It grows between 2-5 tonnes of veg for box scheme, with 30-50% content from our own crops, and rest bought in from other growers. 60+ veg box customers on monthly direct debits. Plus currently selling fruit, dairy and other sundries too.

Turnover £35k already this year, expected £50k by year end. It was £33.8k 2020. Currently supports 7 days wages a week from March-December, and could probably cover 8 days in 2022. Potential to increase this by applying for grants and/or working on marketing the veg boxes over Winter.

It has shed, tools, 100 foot commercial polytunnel, water, rabbit fencing, irrigation equipment, lean-to packing area, tarps/mypex/crop covers. Supportive landowners, and reasonable rent, including unlimited water. Excellent grade 1 agricultural soil. Potential to expand land use. Beautiful rural location just outside Manchester.

Existing grower can support transition as much as needed.

    Essential:
There’s no public transport, so driving license and own transport
At least 1-2 seasons growing at another market garden (preferably more)
Access to financial capital for new season costs
    Resilience, flexibility and enthusiasm

    Desirable:
Experience running a veg box scheme
    Experience applying for grants
    Experience running community sessions
Experience bookeeping, and using financial software (Quickbooks and Go Cardless)
Experience in marketing (design, videos, photos, social media and wordpress for website)
Experience keeping records for Soil Association and being inspected
Understanding of not for profits, CLGs/CICs/ co-ops

If you are interested, please send your email address to contact@reddylane and we will send more details in the next couple of weeks. More info on the business and photos on http://www.reddylanemarketgarden.com and photos on Twitter, FB and Insta.

Please do share with anyone you think might be interested ?
