Overview:
Henri’s Field is a 5 acre site for agroforestry and regenerative agriculture production and education. It was established in 2015 to demonstrate a range of agroforestry techniques including a forest garden, nut orchard, tree nursery, coppices and windbreaks.
The Head Grower will be responsible for the annual vegetable beds which are part of an alley-cropping system with apple trees. Other colleagues will have responsibility for managing other parts of the field, including the apple tree alleys.
The role will include converting the existing outdoor beds (0.27 acres) and 2 polytunnels (20m length) from a tillage system to a no-dig system.
The head grower will be participating in a significant transition for the field, which was originally established as part of Schumacher College, but is now under the control of an independent CIC. We aim to further develop the field as a diverse educational resource, research and demonstration site for regenerative farming and agroforestry, and also as a hub that supports other local small regenerative businesses and organisations. Produce from the annual vegetable beds will be sold to the College’s kitchen, and new routes to market will be developed, including local restaurants and direct sales.
The ideal candidate would have a strong horticultural background including no-dig growing, enthusiasm for regenerative practices, management/leadership skills, basic IT skills and excellent attention to detail.

Essential Skills:
• Enthusiastic and reliable
• 2 years experience of commercial horticulture, including no-dig systems
• Self-motivated and able to work alone at times
• Good communication skills
• Well-organised, with an eye for detail
• Basic IT skills
Desirable Skills:
• Qualification in horticulture or related subject
• A strong interest in promoting regenerative farming and agroforestry
• Confident to lead volunteers with mixed levels of experience
• Experience of sales, marketing and admin
