One of the most striking differences between 2019 and 2020 for young climate activists has been the lack of organised physical protest and campaigns. After the mass involvement in the school strikes, this year has felt like a lot of passion without purpose as isolation and distance were enforced to prevent the spread of covid-19.
But the climate and biodiversity crisis is not going away. And the way the industrial farming system produces food is actively harming our home.
FLAME is made up of young people who believe that the way we produce food and eat it can be a solution to creating a better world. We believe that everybody should have access to nutritious, safe and affordable food. We want to eat and prepare nutritious food, some of us have grown up on family farms and some are now pursuing careers in farming, forestry, food preparation or land based crafts. Some of us are ecologists, health care workers, artists, community organisers. All of us are activists in our own way believing that food and land are are important.
That is why FLAME has been created; we believe that there is viable solution in agroecology to the destruction enacted by the current agricultural system. We believe that everyone deserves access to good quality food (and enough of it!). We believe in the power of people to unite and strive for a better world. We believe in food justice.
As a movement, our three principle aims are:
1) To demand food justice and enable access to good quality, affordable food for all.
2) To enable greater youth involvement in sustainable food production, farming and landmark.
3) To promote agroecology as a viable solution to the climate and biodiversity crisis.
We are seeking members to be part of this new and exciting grassroots effort. Join us on Thursday 14th January at 5:30pm for our kick off meeting. Email youth.flame@
Together, we can be part of the struggle for change the world so desperately needs (and have fun along the way!). Everyone is welcome, and we very much look forward to meeting, organising and campaigning with you.
