Join us in London on April 26th!
On April 26th 2025, we’ll be bringing together farmers, growers, food system workers, activists and everyone who has a stake in the UK’s food system (yes – that includes you!) to march in London under the banner ‘Food In Our Hands’.
There’s a lot to be angry right now; from Defra’s abrupt closure of the SFI scheme and the ongoing struggle of food producers to make a decent living, to rising inequality and continued attempts by the far-right to hijack UK farming.
It’s now more important than ever for us to come together and build a broad and progressive coalition across the UK’s food, farming and land working sectors, and present our vision for a more just and equitable future.
If you are an individual, group or organisation who would like to support the march or get involved in the organising, please fill in this form to pledge your support.

Building the UK Food Sovereignty Movement
What’s the issue?
The dominant economic model that shapes the food system in the UK and beyond is inherently violent. This is because its foundations were built with the intention of pursuing profit and enhancing corporate control rather than actually feeding people. This industrial-scale intensive way of producing food has brought us to a situation where our natural resources are depleting, biodiversity is in rapid decline, millions are dependent on food banks for survival, our collective health is suffering, and international trade deals continue to deliberately reinforce neo-colonial control over the Majority World.
Many movements across the world have mobilised effectively to combat these injustices, yet in the UK, the political and social narrative on food justice remains frustratingly limited to merely increasing the provision of food banks. In the UK we have so many incredible organisations working towards building food security and food sovereignty, but what we lack is a cohesive movement to bring us all together and contextualise our current food system against a backdrop of capitalism, colonialism, and the multiple forms of oppression upon which it feeds.

What are we doing?
Food In Our Hands is a movement of movements. By partnering with organisations and individuals who are engaged in the struggle to transform our food system and who advocate for food sovereignty, we are working to put food – both metaphorically and literally – back in our hands.
In 2022 we hosted an educational webinar series exploring the different aspects of food sovereignty.
In September we organised the 2022 People’s Food Summit, bringing together people and organisations from across the food and farming sector to strengthen the UK food sovereignty movement. You can read more about the Summit here.
