Requests for work, volunteering or internships

We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is.

Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@landworkersalliance.org.uk

Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work.

You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

Winter Gathering and AGM – LWA 10th Anniversary

For the first time in four years, the LWA is hosting a national Winter Gathering alongside the Annual General Meeting. This is an opportunity for members to gather, exchange stories and lessons from the year, shape our union and guide our work over the next year, and celebrate and build our community.

Date: Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th February 2024
Location: Dearne Valley Outdoor Centre, South Yorkshire

This year’s Winter Gathering will hold a bustling programme of presentations, workshops and skillshares during the day time on Saturday and Sunday, with a chance to sing, dance, share stories or whatever it is you do to connect with other LWA members in the evenings. Imagine the Land Skills Fair but more intimate, with more of an inwards perspective, focusing on building our work together to make LWA our union.

One ticket will include:

  1. Access to the whole weekend of talks, workshops, skillsharing and celebration about our work together as the LWA
  2. Two nights of indoor accommodation on Friday and Saturday
  3. Five fully catered meals from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch
  4. Bottomless tea and coffee throughout the weekend
  5. A Celebration Feast on the Saturday evening with a two course meal, live music, dancing and all round joyousness

There will be three ticket releases:
1st release – Thurs 19th October – Priority release for folks of marginalised identities
This aims to ensure that we’re hearing from people whose voices are marginalised at this key event in our democratic calendar. This could include queer people, black and people of colour, women, disabled people, people from a migrant background or another marginalised identity. Anyone who self-defines are coming from a marginalised identity is welcome to buy a ticket in this first release.

2nd release – Thurs 2nd November – Regional ticket allocation
A proportional number of tickets will be allocated for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in this release, to ensure that there is a representation of LWA members from all across the UK. Please select a ticket for the region where you live to ensure those from other regions also have a chance to access tickets.

3rd release – Thurs 16th November – General release
If you don’t get a ticket through either of the first two releases – don’t worry! There will be plenty of tickets available in the third release, so any and all members and supporters will be able to secure your ticket from mid-November.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale, with bursary, standard and solidarity prices for members. We’re asking that you take a bit of time to self-define as to what the appropriate ticket price is for you. It might be useful to use the Green Bottle Test (click here). You may be surprised as to which option suits your financial situation!

Children’s tickets are available for different age groups. Children aged 0-3 are expected to be with a parent at all times (we won’t have any childcare provision for this age group). We’re aiming to provide two subsidised childcare offers for children aged 3-5 and aged 5 and over. Please select the ticket option which will be suitable for your child in Feb 2024 and we’ll be in touch with more info about what is on offer.

Accommodation will generally be in dorm-style indoor bunk rooms. When you have selected your ticket(s), you will be asked what your preferences for accommodation are. A limited number of private rooms will be available for families or those who require this for accessibility reasons. Male-only or female-only dorms will be available for anyone self-defining within those identities. All other accommodation will be in mixed-gendered dorms. Based on demand, we will define some dorms as “quiet” areas for those who prefer this. We’ll aim to meet everyone’s preference but depending on demand we may not be able to – we’ll be in touch with you if this is the case.

If you have any questions or would like to get in touch about registering to attend the Winter Gathering & AGM, please contact emmott.baddeley@landworkersalliance.org.uk.
