Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is.

Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work.

Food, Land Agriculture: a Movement for Equality

Meet FLAME, the youth branch of the LWA

We are FLAME; a new, dynamic grassroots movement for food justice, orchestrated by young people.

Welcome to FLAME, the Landworkers’ Alliance’s youth group. FLAME is a network of people aged 16-30 who are interested in landwork, food justice, and agroecology and want radical change to our current food and farming system. FLAME is part of the Landworkers’ Alliance, a UK-based organisation who are members of La Via Campesina – the international peasants’ movement.
We have a vision of a food and land-use system where everybody has access to local, healthy and affordable food from producers they can trust. Our vision is underpinned by the frameworks of food sovereignty, agroecology and social justice. More information on our vision can be found here.
Our 3 Principal Aims are:
1. To demand food justice* to enable access to good quality, affordable food for all.
2. To enable greater youth involvement in sustainable food production and landwork.
3. To promote agroecology as a viable solution to the climate and biodiversity crisis.

Our group works at the convergence of forestry, food, conservation, and land justice.

What we do:
We are first and foremost a network to connect young people interested in and working on similar things. We also share and run events, as well as advertise and subsidise many opportunities like field trips to landwork projects or taster days in forestry. For example, in 2024 we organised a brilliant fully funded camping trip to Swn y Coed to learn about permaculture and compost.
We’ve also spoken at key farming events like the Oxford Real Farming Conference, and try to offer subsidised tickets to members. As a group of young people with many talents, we also put together a stunning zine (see here) on land justice, food sovereignty and agroecology.
As well as offering opportunities and taking part in events, as part of La Via Campesina we get involved in campaigns to support the struggle for a more just food future. FLAME members participate in Europe-wide and global youth events and training with La Via Campesina, and can get involved in LWA working groups and campaigns. Currently, we’re partnering with the LWA and the Worker Support Centre to stand in solidarity with migrant seasonal agricultural workers.
We do all this and so much more… upskilling, LWA campaigns, training, building community, showing what landwork can be, sustainable organising! Sign up as a member to receive our newsletter to keep up to date.
