Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

The Fold is looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager to maintain and develop our beautiful site. We have an eclectic mix of farm buildings which have been converted to a range of different uses, and the role of the Maintenance Manager is to keep the buildings, equipment and wider site in good working order and safe for the public.

In this role, you need to be able to assess work required and judge whether to do the work in house or by a contractor. Budgeting and attention to costs is important. As a site that seeks to live in harmony with the natural world, you should be committed to using non-toxic and environmentally-friendly materials wherever possible. An approach of ‘make do and mend’ underscores our philosophy where it is safe and practical to do so.

Previous experience of maintenance is required. Beneficial skills include experience in either painting and decorating, carpentry, plastering, plumbing, electrical work, and/or general DIY work. You must be self-motivated, have excellent time-keeping skills with the ability to lead the site team and prioritise tasks.

Send CV to operations@thefold.org.uk to apply or see https://www.thefold.org.uk/careers/

This is a varied position and would ideally suit an experienced person who is looking to downshift and achieve a healthier work/life balance with closer alignment to values of environmental sustainability and respect for all life.

There is an opportunity to live-in with this role, either in our beautiful farmhouse or with your own caravan/tiny home/shepherd’s hut. The role is 21 hours per week role and pay is up to £12/hour.

    Main responsibilities:

Schedule, delegate, and perform minor and routine maintenance on all appropriate equipment on a regular basis
Organise and manage external contractors in line with company procedures, where necessary.
Oversee and inspect the work performed by site team and external contractors; administer disciplinary actions and/or development plans as necessary
Assist site team in identifying, diagnosing, repairing, and resolving issues related electrical, plumbing, heating systems, appliances, stairs, railings, carpet, tiles, flooring, etc
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies.
    The Person:

Hands-on, can-do attitude, competent at fixing a range of maintenance issues.
Maintenance experience in a customer service orientated commercial property like retail, leisure, hotels or hospitality preferred.
Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager/ Supervisor/ Technical Manager/ Facilities Manager, or experienced Maintenance Technician/ Maintenance Engineer ready to step up.
Experience and/or qualifications in painting and decorating, carpentry, plastering, plumbing, heating and ventilation or electrical work
Financial experience to manage maintenance budgets.
Experience with older restored properties is desired as our site comprises converted farm buildings, some of which date to the 17th century
